New England Aster
The New England aster is the most iconic of the aster flowers. Its violet petals and contrasting yellow pollen-covered center reminds us that nature knows the rules of the color wheel, and masters it perfectly. There is something about a bushy flowering New England aster that just lightens the mood, and we are here for it! While we have put a variety of unique native species in the beer garden to help expand our collective knowledge of what is possible in the native plants’ world, sometimes the classics just shouldn’t be passed up.
Plant the New England aster from spring to early fall in full sun conditions. While these prefer rich soil, they are even tolerant of clay soils.
