With direction from the Packaging Manager, the Packaging Operator plays a crucial role in our production brewery, ensuring the efficient and accurate packaging of our high-quality craft beers. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong work ethic, excellent manual dexterity, and a passion for maintaining the highest standards of quality throughout the packaging process. The Packaging Operator will work closely with the production team to meet production goals while adhering to safety and quality protocols. 

This role is a full-time hourly position with benefits (non-exempt). This position will have both quarterly and annual reviews with opportunities for growth and development.

Previous experience is a plus, but not required. Training will be provided.

Responsibilities

Packaging Operations:

  • Operate packaging machinery, including canning, labeling, and kegging equipment, according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Monitor and adjust machinery settings to maintain optimal packaging efficiency, product quality, and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections, maintenance, and cleaning to ensure proper functioning and prevent any operational issues.
  • Monitor packaging line operations to ensure accurate filling, sealing, and labeling of products, maintaining consistency and meeting quality standards.
  • Perform quality checks at regular intervals to ensure proper carbonation levels, fill heights, label placement, and package integrity.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and perform basic repairs or adjustments as needed.
  • Keep packaging areas clean and organized

Quality Assurance:

  •  Follow SOPs and quality control protocols to ensure the highest product quality and consistency
  •  Maintain accurate and organized records of packaging activities, including batch codes, lot numbers, packaging materials usage, and any deviations from standards and record necessary information in Grist
  •  Participate in sensory evaluation sessions to identify and address any product quality issues.

Safety and Compliance:

  •  Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures, including proper handling of chemicals, equipment, and materials
  •  Report any safety hazards, incidents, or near misses to the Packaging Manager immediately
  •  Comply with all applicable regulations and best practices related to food safety, quality control, and workplace safety

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate effectively with the production team, including brewers, logistics and warehouse personnel, and quality assurance personnel, to maintain a smooth production flow and ensure load-out schedules are met
  • Communicate any packaging-related issues or concerns to the Packaging Manager in a timely manner
  • Contribute to a positive and team-oriented work environment by fostering open communication, mutual respect, and cooperation.

Requirements

Ability to:

  • Stand for 10 hours a day
  • Lift full cases of beer continuously
  • Team-lift full kegs regularly
  • Lift empty kegs continuously
  • Frequently bend, lift, push, and kneel while maintaining adequate pace
  • Drive a forklift proficiently (training is provided)
  • Must have mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and fix issues
